Mercedes-Benz A170CDI Elegance (Owned: 1999 to date)
My first Mercedes-Benz; my first diesel. Amazingly (it amazed me, anyway) this little baby cost considerably more than all the other cars featured on this site put together. As soon as I saw the A-class a couple of years ago, I knew I had to have one. Shortly after the UK launch, I placed my order, specifying a few items from the accessory list (the excellent automatic clutch system, leather upholstery, the unique louvred sunroof, Sony Minidisc player/CD autochanger, heated seats, metallic paint and a few other goodies). Finally, in March this year, it was time to take delivery. My first decent trip in it came a week later, with a run up to Chesterfield to check on progress with the restoration of my Vanden Plas Princess. It's now just run-in, and living up to my expectations. Distinctive, well-appointed, fun to drive and very economical. |
