| 1: Mini-MPV innovation |
In 1956, Fiat launched the Multipla, a six-seater version of their diminutive 600. This was an idea ahead of its time: no other manufacturer seemed interested in producing a rival, and the Multipla was not replaced when production ceased 10 years later. Almost 30 years after the launch of the Multipla, the Nissan Prairie was at the forefront of the current wave of mini-MPVs. Fiat has now been forced to play catch-up, by launching its new Multipla into a market already populated by the Mitsubishi Spacewagon, Renault Mègane Scenic and Vauxhall Zafira. Soon, every major manufacturer will offer a car in this sector. |
